This Spanish Model 1916, 7.65mm, is a French contract pistol without the stars on the butt, but with an added stud to protect the safety lever and a matching numbered magazine. It has checkered walnut grips, about 65% blue, and a VG+ bore.
Short of sidearms in WWI, France adopted Spain’s Ruby pocket pistol in 1915 and ordered it in huge numbers. More than 50 Spanish makers built Ruby-type pistols for France, and the French accepted about 710,000 of them. The stud was added because early pistols could be knocked off safe when pulled from a snug holster.
Fun fact: In 1919, Finland bought 10,000 of these French Ruby-types, and they were still in Finnish hands during the Winter War against the Soviet Union in 1939–40.
C&R eligible.
