This original WWII USMC M7 shoulder holster for the Colt 1911A1 pistol is made of brown leather. The back is marked “USMC–Boyt–1945.” Overall condition is VG–VG+.

The M7 was adopted in 1944, late in WWII, to replace the M3 shoulder holster. The M3 could only be worn one way and was awkward under a jacket. The M7’s adjustable straps let the wearer set the holster where it was most comfortable. It became popular with officers, and the M3 and M7 both stayed in service long after the war.

Fun fact: Boyt started in 1901 in Des Moines, Iowa, as a maker of saddles and harnesses. By WWII it had become a major supplier of military leather and one of the largest employers in Iowa.
