Wilkinson Pattern 1897 Scots Guards officer’s sword sold in 1913 to Randolph Algernon Ronald Stewart, then styled Viscount Garlies. He served with the Scots Guards during World War I and was captured during the First Battle of Ypres in October 1914. He succeeded his father as the 12th Earl of Galloway in 1920. The blade is etched with the Scots Guards insignia and the letter “G.” The sword has been nickel plated for dress use and includes its leather-covered scabbard and hanger. A Milner research letter, a copy of the Wilkinson ledger sheet, and extensive family and military history are included. Overall Excellent.
