This is a Reich Revolver 1883 Officer’s Model in 10.6mm. This single trigger, single action revolver has the correct checkered walnut grips. It was built by the consortium of V.C.S. and C.G.H. in Suhl, and there are German military acceptance proofs on the butt. It has all matching numbers, about 70% high polish blue and an excellent bore. Antique.
The Model 1883, known as the “Officer’s Model,” was a shorter-barreled version of Germany’s M1879 Reichsrevolver. It was a six-shot, side-loading, solid-frame revolver, and about 400,000 were made. It served as the German Army’s standard sidearm until the Luger replaced it in 1908.
Fun fact: The Reichsrevolver was so tough that it stayed in service long after it was officially replaced. Some were still carried in World War I, and German border guards were using them as late as 1945.
