Description
Maker: Haerens Rustkammer (Danish Army Arsenal), Copenhagen
Model: M1910/21 (Bergmann-Bayard pattern)
Caliber: 9mm Bergmann-Bayard (9x23mm)
Date: 1924 (Crown/24 marked)
Grips: Large black Trolit
Finish: About 97% blue
Bore: Excellent
Condition: All matching numbers except the near-matching magazine
This is a Danish Military Haerens Rustkammer 1910/21 in 9mm. It has the Danish Military Crown/24 proof and date on the right receiver and below the front sight. The Danish Military inventory number is on the right side of the frame. It has the large black Trolit grips. All numbers match except the magazine, which is near matching. The blue rates about 97% and the bore is excellent. Only about 1,900 were built like this one.
Denmark adopted the Bergmann-Bayard in 1910 and bought 4,840 pistols from Pieper (AEP) in Belgium. After WWI, Denmark needed more pistols and spare parts, so it began building them at home. The Danish version, the M1910/21, has a larger and stronger extractor, larger contoured grips made of Trolit (an early plastic), and a screw in place of the sideplate catch. About 900 were made from 1922 to 1924 marked “Haerens Tøjhus.” A second batch of 1,904 was made in 1924–25 marked “Haerens Rustkammer,” and this pistol is from that batch.
Fun fact: The magazine sits in front of the trigger guard, as on the Mauser C96, and holds only six rounds. The 9x23mm cartridge outlived the pistol: Spain adopted it as the “9mm Largo,” and it stayed in Spanish service for decades.
C&R eligible.
