This is a British brown leather ammo pouch, marked on the back “S. Isaac Campbell & Co – 71 Jermyn St – London.” It is in Very Good to Very Good+ overall condition.
S. Isaac, Campbell & Co. was a London military contractor founded in 1845. The firm moved to 71 Jermyn Street in 1861, and during the American Civil War it became one of the main suppliers of rifles, uniforms and equipment to the Confederacy. The company went bankrupt in 1869, so the Jermyn Street address places this pouch in that short window.
Fun fact: By February 1863, S. Isaac, Campbell & Co. had arranged more than £1 million in supplies for the Confederacy. When the South lost Vicksburg that July, Confederate cotton-backed bonds collapsed, and with them the firm’s chances of being paid.
