Mauser P.08 “Black Widow” Luger – 1940 Dated, All-Matching
A true piece of WWII history, this Mauser P.08 Luger—commonly referred to by collectors as the “Black Widow”—is a standout example of the iconic German sidearm. Manufactured in 1940, it features the “42” Mauser code on the toggle, indicating production at the Mauser-Werke factory in Oberndorf during the height of the Second World War.
This model bears the correct Eagle/655 military acceptance proofs on the right side of the receiver, a hallmark of German military-issued Lugers from this era. The “Black Widow” designation comes from its striking black Bakelite grips and black plastic magazine base, introduced during the late 1930s and early 1940s due to material shortages and evolving wartime production methods.
This particular pistol is in exceptional condition, retaining approximately 95% of its original blued finish with sharp markings and minimal wear. Even more impressive, it has all matching serial numbers, a rare and desirable feature among collectors. The bore is excellent, showing strong rifling and a clean, bright interior.
Whether you’re a serious collector or a history enthusiast, this Black Widow Luger is a remarkable example of WWII-era German craftsmanship and a significant piece of 20th-century military history.
